Title: Scattering in Nonlinear Media and Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM)
Abstract: We study a few aspects of wave propagation in nonlinear media. We present a generalization of the optical theorem which holds when the polarization is an arbitrary function of the electric field. We give a method of obtaining the scattering amplitude of a field scattered from small spherical nonlinear scatterers. We apply these results to obtain the power extinguished in second harmonic generation and the Kerr effect in the presence of one or two small spherical scatterer, and the scanning graphs in NSOM when the sample consists of two small spheres.
