Title:  Curvature Flow

Abstract:   Common materials, such as metals and ceramics, are composed of networks of crystals, called grains. Industrial processes alter these grain structures and ultimately, the physical properties of the material. The evolution of these grains are governed by curvature dependent flows.
We discuss algorithms for curvature flow in the context of grain boundaries. In particular, I will discuss extensions of the simple threshold dynamics algorithm (due Merriman, Bence, Osher) to arbitrary surface tensions, with the goal of large scale simulations in mind.
