Maxwell’s equations are the foundations of classical electrodynamics. In this talk we give a derivation of the Maxwell’s equations from various known laws of experimental physics. As many other derivations in physics, this has more historical significance than mathematical inevitability. We then solve the Maxwell’s equations with a known source distribution. Finally, we will discuss the well-posedness of the Maxwell-Lorentz equations by turning them into a symmetric hyperbolic system. A basic knowledge of the wave equations is sufficient to understand the talk.
